Performing at Newcastle Castle

After some exciting and very productive conversations with the people at Newcastle Castle, we’re delighted to announce that our Easter panto, Bertie & Gertie’s EGG-cellent Adventure! will be performed there during the Easter holidays.

After four performances in Sunderland, we’ll de-camp to this historic and truly atmospheric venue on Thursday 18th April, to continue the madcap adventures of our two newest comic creations!

Tickets remain at only £7 each, and will be available on the castle website soon. In the meantime, you can get tickets NOW for our Sunderland shows by going to our home page and clicking the Book Now button.

Cranked Anvil awarded “Best of 2014”

Mon 12 Jan 2015

It’s been a quiet few months for us at Anvil HQ, as we’ve all rested and recovered from the whirlwind that was I Left My Heart In Roker Park. (Although our director Paul Dunn has been anything but resting: since leaving his heart in Roker Park for the last time he appeared in ION Production’s Xmas Laffalang and the Consett Empire panto Aladdin, as well as starting work on a huge writing project for 2015.)

Regular visitors to this website and friends of Cranked Anvil will know that the play was extremely well received, both by audiences and critics, and the icing on the cake is to have had the play declared ‘Best Revival of 2014’.

Peter Lathan, writing for the British Theatre Guide, declared our production (along with the Guild of Lillian’s Get Up And Tie Your Fingers) to be the best revivals of 2014. You can read Peter’s review of our production here.

Naturally, we’re delighted with this ‘Best Revival’ accolade, and are planning to build on our success in 2015.

We hope to see you at one of our productions.

Ongoing projects in 2014

Wednesday 28th May 2014

It’s been pretty quiet at Anvil Towers recently – partly because we’ve been working behind-the-scenes on projects, but also partly due to us taking a breather due to health issues.

But things are well and truly back up to full speed now – which you can see if you take a quick look around the website.

The ball is rolling on our big September production, I Left My Heart In Roker Park (with Extra Time at the Stadium of Light).  If you want to book tickets for any of the venues (Customs House, Arts Centre Washington, Durham Gala) head to our page here.

We’re also getting a couple of our schools projects off the ground. We’ll be working on a touring panto, Aladdin, which will be available to go into North-East schools in November and December this year.  Take a look here for details.  And our full-length musical comedy written especially for Primary schools to mount and perform is now available.  Joey Cotter and the Lost Mineral is available to buy, at a one-off price of just £45 (with no further royalties or fees to pay, EVER!).  You can find details of it here.

Don’t forget to keep up with these and other developments both here, and on twitter and facebook.
