As 2022 draws to an end, we have decided to take a bit of a sabatical here at Cranked Anvil. competitions are winding down, with the current Short Story and Flash Fiction comps (deadlines the end of Oct and Nov respectively) being the last ones (for now).
But we’re still sticking to our promise to keep open the ‘4 for the price of 3’ entries on both competitions. So – the entry fee for 1 or 2 stories stays the same, but if you pay the £10 entry fee you can enter 4 stories instead of the usual 3.
In the meantime, here are the three winning entries – and the shortlist – for our Aug22 flash competition. First of all, congratulations to the winning three writers:
1st: James Harvey – The Birds and the Bees
2nd: Sarah Byard – Parasite
3rd: Anita Goodfellow – Colouring Roses
Your stories are published here on our website, and prize money is on its way.
And well done to the following writers who made it onto the shortlist. Judges confirmed this quarter was a particularly close one to judge, so having made it to this list is a fantastic achievement in itself – well done.
Gillian Breckell
Rowan Evans
Jane May Morrison
John Payne
Alan John Wilson
And finally, just a small reminder that our latest print anthology of short stories is available to order now, exclusively from this website.
