We’re delighted to present our newest venture to our Writing Community.

Microfiction’s popularity is ever-increasing, and here at Cranked Anvil we want to be a part of that, and to give writers a chance to submit their mini-masterpieces and be published. Go on – tell us a complete story in NO MORE THAN one hundred and twenty-three words!

There are no fees for submitting your work. We will simply publish the best microfiction we receive, as chosen by our editor.

No deadlines

Simply send us your best microfiction when you feel it’s ready, and it will be read and assesed by our editor and, if chosen, published here.

Open internationally

As long as your story is written in English, we don’t mind where you you send it from! We welcome International Writers!

What is Fiction 1-2-3 ?

If you can tell us a complete story in no more than 123 words, we want to read it and we want to publish it! And don’t forget – there are NO FEES to submit your microfiction. Just go to the Submissions Page and follow the instructions. If our editors like your story, we’ll publish it here on our website! That’s it!

“Microfiction is a genre that can really test a writer’s ability to tell a story using a very limited word count. Your story should, ideally, still offer the same character and plot development as longer pieces of fiction.
“Although challenging, writing microfiction can be a useful tool to help writers of every genre craft their skill in a number of different ways.“

A Few Simple Rules of Submission

  • Your story must be NO MORE THAN 123 words (not including the title). There is no minimum word count.
  • You must enter via the Submissions Form. No emails, attachements, or correspondence, will be considered or responded to.
  • Entries must be written in English.
  • Due to the expected high rate of submissions, we cannot guarantee how quickly your work will be read, or published. If you submit, we ask for your patience. We will respond, as soon as we can, and any authors whose work we publish will be notified well in advance.
