We now offer a critique/feedback service with our Short Story and Flash Fiction Competitions.
NB: This service will be re-introduced as soon as our competitions go live again. (Which will be very soon, so stay tuned and keep checking back!)
If you are entering our quarterly writing competitions, you now have the option to receive feedback on your entry/entries.
You will be provided with a report, covering presentation, title, opening, characterisation, dialogue, as well as a general overview. We also provide an edited version of your original manuscript (using Word’s ‘Track Changes’) which will highlight corrections and suggestions, as well as general comments on the work.
Our critiques will cover where improvements are needed, but also highlight positive aspects of the writing and story. We feel that a writer benefits just as much from positive recognition when their work is being appraised, and we seek to provide this important aspect of feedback in the critique.
Fees
The cost is usually £12 per critique.
However, exclusively for Cranked Anvil competition entrants, if you request more than one you receive a rolling discount (just as with the competitions themselves!) So:

2 stories + 2 critiques

3 stories + 3 critiques

If you’d like a critique on your story entries, just go to the entry page and click the required ‘Buy Now’ button. (Please take care to hit the correct button – mistakes may be slow to rectify (if at all) – paypal is notoriously difficult to deal with in these situations!)
