Butterflies land their luring cobalt blue on wavering stems, bowing them beneath the shimmering sun. They flutter, hover, lift again as straightening blooms release them to the air. Like them, she vows to let temptation go, unbending to the broken promises and lies. She’ll set him free and cherish what she has, resist delusions of a different life – what might have been if he had cherished her. She lifts herself from soft grass, packs the picnic as the children run, laughing, from the trickling stream below, clutching innocent finds. An interlude of peace, but she has made her choice. Under benevolent blue sky, she heads for home and happiness. No more the fragile fluttering of her heart, now resolute the future shines.
