It’s General Election Day here in the UK. Meanwhile in the US there’s all sorts of political shenanigans going on! (Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a political post!)
But it puts us in mind of a fantastic piece of flash fiction we received, back in November 2020 when we opened our first ever flash fiction competition. It was titled SOUP KITCHEN by Rose Walker-Taylor.
We won’t say anything more than that, because we don’t want to give anything away…
You may well remember it, but even so we think it’s worth another read. And if you didn’t see it first time around, take just a couple of minutes now to go read and enjoy it!… (And then please share it around social media and spread the Cranked Anvil word!)
If you’re inspired by that, our flash fiction competitions are open all year round. The current one is running until 31st August. There’s no restriction on theme/genre. Entry fees are low, and there are cash prizes and publication to be won. Why not give it a try?
If you write microfiction (or even if you don’t but you want to give it a go), our new microfiction platform, Fiction 123, is now open for submissions. It’s COMPLETELY FREE to submit, and we guarantee to consider every piece sent to us. (Just make sure you familiarise yourself with the rules of submission, and please be patient as it may take some time to get through all the submissions we receive.)
Happy Writing, folks!
