A FORK IN THE ROAD by Lesley Bungay

She followed each sign as told, her life a map of paths well-trodden by her ancestors. When she reached a fork, she paused. The right road bore familiar footprints, the left – unused. She hesitated, removed scuffed shoes, and stepped barefoot into the unknown.

The paths ran parallel for a time, but foliage frustrated her progress. She watched those on the right road stride unhindered to their goal, as she stumbled and stalled. Forced to slow, she began to enjoy the journey, relish the challenge.

The obscured view freed her imagination. She pictured the possibilities, dared to dream. Her road was tricky but she rose from each slip stronger, more determined to forge her own way. As the paths diverged, she didn’t look back.

Lesley writes novels, short stories, flash fiction and the occasional Haiku. She is represented by Intersaga Literary Agency.
