FOR FREE, BIRTHDAY CAKE, UNTASTED by Mileva Anastasiadou

You know how it goes.

How the shortest stories long to be understood, how they are secretive and open to interpretation, but always hide a meaning that longs to be unveiled.

How you’re stuck with a wasted day, a wasted truth, a wasted cake, a birthday cake untasted you hope to give away, before the day ends.

How you blow a cake-less candle instead, you make a wish, and when you open up your eyes, that cake has turned into a tiny poem, a truth unspoken, a hole of nothing left.

How the tiniest stories burst like balloons, how they explode like a reverse big bang that ends worlds, birthdays, hope, and how truth glows subtly but always, in the end.
