K says we’re like the inverse of a romantic comedy. Sometimes he comes out with shit like this. We go to the cinema to see a rerun of When Harry Met Sally and make out at the back. When Sally fakes her orgasm K fakes an orgasm too but then he tells me he wasn’t faking and I eat his cum off a piece of popcorn. Salted and sweet, says K. Then he says, you don’t see people like us in the movies. Life in the movies and lives like ours are like night and day, he says. I nod and I say, like the inverse of a romantic comedy, and he tells me not to be a smartass. Nobody likes a smartass.
Drew Gummerson is the writer of The Lodger, Me and Mickie James, Seven Nights at the Flamingo Hotel. Saltburn is coming Spring 2025.
