And finally…
A few Inspiration Prompts to get you writing into 2025.
- Your life as inspiration: think about what happened to you yesterday, and how you would write it up as a simple diary entry. Now, instead, write it as a piece of narrative fiction, using dialogue and multiple characters. Write it in third-person. (And first-person if you wish.) Make it dramatic. End on a cliff-hanger!
- Age tells a story: what is the oldest thing you own? Think about it, then tell its story. As an alternative, come up with a story in which that object plays a key part.
- Dialogue only: write a scene or a story using only dialogue.
- Inspiration everywhere: take a look in your daily newspaper or an internet news story. (Local/regional stories are usually best for this one). Find one that interests or intrigues you, and use it as inspiration for a fictional short. If the news story is serious, try to inject humour; if it’s more light-hearted, try inserting a dark, dramatic tone.
