Today is National Writing Day…
The idea is to give writers a chance to hear their works-in-progress read aloud and performed by professional actors. The company will spend just one day reading through the script, discussing details with the director, and putting the whole performance ‘on its feet’ in order to produce a production which will be performed in front of an audience.
At the end of the performance the writer (and the actors and director) will hold a Q&A session, in which the audience can offer advice and criticism, ask questions, and give general feedback. The whole evening will be presented and curated by Paul Dunn and Vanessa Karon.
Our alumni of previous writers is an impressive list… Jay Anotony Sykes went on to win a Gold Award in New York for his radio drama Seaburn. Wayne Miller‘s scripts The Big Time and The Big Hit both went on to have full scale productions at The Customs House after workshopping them at our RRN nights. Rachael Walsh produced her comedy The Morning After at the Pier Pavilion. David Foster is currently developing a number of scripts for various media.
