The short list and winners of our first ever Prompt Competition have been decided, and we’re delighted to announce and publish them on our website today.
We had some fantastic entries – from regular entrants as well as many writers new to Cranked Anvil – and the judges thoroughly enjoyed reading all the qualifying stories.
The prompt for this quarter was:
Your story must include an animal
It must take place in more than one location
And it must contain the words PENCIL, RETIRE, and QUICKLY
There were some fascinating, clever and very entertaining ways in which some writers chose to use and interpret the prompts, and that really shines through in the three winning stories.
If you’d like to enter our next prompt cometition, all the details are on the prompt page here. You have until 10am UK time on 1st July to get your entries in.
Plus, you also have until the end of May to get 4 entries for the price of 3 in our Flash Fiction Competition.
In the meantime, congratulatons to our three winning writers:
1st: Keith Henderson – Insert Vague Inspirational Quote Here
2nd: Jonathan McLaughlin – Pawn Takes King
3rd: Alison Wassell – Emily and the Girls
Prize money is on its way to you, and your stories are published here on our website.
Well done, also, to the following writers who made it onto the short list:
R J Witlaw
In the meantime, we’re currently working on our next print anthology, which will be published in July. Keep an eye on our website here, as well as our social media, for details as they are announced on how to get your hands on a copy!
