This Autumn, we are delighted to be producing this wonderful play by Jarrow-born playwright Tom Kelly.

In a brand new update to the story, the play is set in 2014 with Kevin Halliday, played by Paul Dunn, recalling the demolition of Roker Park during the summer of 1997 and Sunderland’s  move to the Stadium of Light.

For lifelong Sunderland supporter Kevin Halliday, following his team has given him his fair share of highs and lows over the years. As he sits in the back garden of his home – on the site of the former Roker Park ground – he recalls the events of his life as they interweave with the fortunes of his beloved Sunderland AFC.

Excitement, heartache, disappointment, satisfaction, jubilation; watching his team and living his life have both provided them all.  This updated version of Tom Kelly’s funny, poignant and ultimately heartwarming play tells the story of one man’s journey through his life and loves.

This one-man play was first produced by The Customs House in September 1997 and 1998, performed by Ray Spencer, with a subsequent production in 2004 (subtitled “Extra Time at the Stadium of Light”) in 2004, performed by David Whittaker and directed by the peerless Chris Elphinstone.  You can read a review of that production here.
