Peacock tickets now online

Wed 12 July 2017

The tour is growing from strength to strength.

The whole creative team is now and place, and the backroom staff are working round the clock to get everything in place to make this the biggest and best Cranked Anvil production since we formed five years ago.

The tour will come to its conclusion in Sunderland itself, at the heart of the cultural quarter in the newly refurbished Peacock.  We’ve been to see the venue, and it’s excellent.  And we’re thrilled and very proud that our production will be the first ever full theatrical show to be staged there.

If you want to see the show (PLUS an ‘extra time’ added bonus – to be announced soon!) you can now book tickets online here.  They’re priced at £10, £8 concs.  It promises to be a pretty special night, and tickets will sell fast, so don’t miss out!

See you there.  Ha’way the lads!

The Writer, The Journalist, and the ex-Footballer

Thur 22 June 2017

Talk about a meeting of great minds and skill!

Here’s the Dream Team behind Wise Men Say / Cornered, meeting recently to discuss the production and put a few more details in place!

l-r: sports journalist Jeff Brown, ex-SAFC player Dave Corner, writer Paul Dunn, pictured recently

The wheels are now in motion for the tour, which is already on sale at most venues (take a look at our production page, using the link above, to see a list of venues and how you can buy tickets.)

As you can see from the photo, Dave Corner, who is the subject of Jeff Brown’s play Cornered, is firmly behind the whole production, and is planning to attend as many of the performances as possible. (Along with, we hope, many other ex-players and club staff.)

And it was during this recent meeting that Jeff – in true sports journalist style – revealed a jaw-dropping sporting exclusive to both Dave and Paul. There is video evidence of the whole revelation, and it will most certainly feature as part of the show!  Make sure you get your tickets to find out what it is!

David and Brogan in rehearsal
Rehearsals:  pictures by Vanessa Karon

Well, rehearsals for our first Shakespeare 2016 production, Romeo and Juliet, have finally begun.  Our pair of star-crossed lovers, David Jackson and Brogan Gilbert, have thrown themselves into their roles, and already things are shaping up to produce a great piece of theatre – even if we do say so ourselves!

And The Customs House in South Shields think so too, as they have invited us to take the production there.

We’ll be playing for one night only, in the main house at the Customs House, on Thursday 19th May 2016.

Show starts at 7.45pm. There are various ticket prices, including an early bird offer, so head over to their website or call their box office on 0191 454 1234.

Thur 10 Mar 2016

With just under a month before rehearsals start on our first Shakespeare Season production, we pleased to say we’ve put the finishing touches to our company (almost!)

We have assembled a fine company of actors – some we know, and some who are new to Cranked Anvil – and we’re very happy to have them all on board.  They are:

James Barton
Christina Cuthbertson
Paul Dunn
Brogan Gilbert
Luke Hammond
David Jackson
Vanessa Karon
Wayne Miller
Steven Stobbs

Paul Dunn will also direct the play, and Wayne Miller is in charge of the fight choreography.

Hopefully, there’ll be one or two extra surprise announcements in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes on our website, as well as our facebook and twitter pages.

Shakespeare in pictures!

Mon 25 Jan 2016

The wheels are fully in motion now for our 2016 Shakespeare Season, and yesterday we had a very busy day with three separate photo shoots for the productions.

We’re very happy with the results – and must extend a huge thanks to our models: David Foster, Amie Jeffels, Steven Stobbs, Stephen Sullivan, Jack Young, and Mike Young.  We’re sure you’ll agree by looking at the results below that it was a successful day!

Take a look at our productions page for details of all the shows and when you can catch them.

2016 Shakespeare Season announced

Thur 14 Jan 2016

We’re delighted to announce that, after much planning and preparation, the wheels are now fully in motion to bring our Shakespeare Season to life!

In the first half of this year we will be producing three of the Bard’s most famous and much-loved plays, and touring them to different venues in the North-East – premiering each one at our very own and newly formed Anvil Space in South Shields.

The productions will be exciting, challenging, and very different to anything you will have seen in the past. You can read more about it here.

We’ll also be casting for the season very soon, so if you’re an actor and would be interested in auditioning for us, keep an eye on our casting page.
